Pastor's Corner - March 2, 2010

E-mail Print PDF

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 2:38

Repentance is an important part of restoring any relationship.  A friend who can not say, “I am sorry” after an argument will probably not remain a friend for long.  A husband or wife who can not admit their role in problems within their marriage will probably not remain married or will remain in a marriage that is not fulfilling.

When we say, “I am sorry” to God we acknowledge our need for God.  We confess that we have sinned and need God to restore us.

An important part of saying, “I am sorry” to God includes being baptized.  Before the time of Jesus’ baptism was a ritual used to cleanse people of sin.  Now, following Jesus’ example, we are baptized to show our obedience to him and to acknowledge that he is our perfect model.

Beginning this Sunday, March 7, I will lead a Pastor’s Class.  This class is for all children who want to follow Jesus’ example and become Jesus’ followers.  The class will be held for three consecutive Sunday’s (March 7, 14 & 21) from 9:15-10:00.

Also, please mark your calendar now because on Sunday, March 21, immediately following worship the Membership Ministry will host a church wide dinner.  We will also have a speaker who was in Haiti on a missionary visit when the earth quake hit.
